The following questions will be used to assess eligibility for the TransESSENCE study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). If you are eligible, you will be directed to enter contact information so we may schedule your study visit. More information about the study is outlined below.

What is TransESSENCE: Transgender and gender diverse individuals may have unique stressors and traumatic experiences throughout their lives. These may impact epigenetic (see below to learn more about epigenetics) and stress markers in the body, which may impact physical health and aging. We aim to better understand epigenetic changes and other biomarkers of stress (ex. inflammation) in transgender patients and their association with stress and traumatic experiences unique to transgender individuals. Eligible participants will be asked to complete one 1.5 hour long study visit at BWH. During the visits participants will consent to the study, complete a blood draw, and fill out a survey about stressful/traumatic life events, hormone use, and other demographic items. Participants will be compensated $50 for completing the study visit.

If you have any questions you may contact study staff Meg Quint (they/them) at mquint@bwh.harvard.edu or 617-525-9566.
