McLean's Trauma Continuum of Care at the Hill Center comprises partial hospital program (PHP) and outpatient program (OP) services. Our Trauma Continuum is excited to offer a 1-year (September-June) adult psychology practicum position focused on training in and delivery of evidence-based trauma-focused interventions. We require that students commit two full days (~8:30am-4pm) and two half days (~8:30am-12pm) per week. There is some flexibility around days/hours and a hybrid in-person/virtual schedule.
The majority of practicum students' time will be spent delivering services at the partial hospital level of care. Our PHP treats individuals of all genders presenting with a principal diagnosis of PTSD or other trauma- and stressor-related disorder, or a dissociative disorder. Trainees work alongside a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other mental health professionals. In the PHP, trainees will begin by shadowing and then later co-leading a variety of trauma-focused groups. Trainees will additionally learn important skills of case management and goal-directed skills-focused short-term therapy. Trainees will eventually carry 1-2 individual cases, which they will share on an interdisciplinary team with a prescriber (i.e., psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner). Over the course of the year, there may also be opportunities to co-lead an outpatient trauma-focused group as well if trainees are interested in this.
Practicum students are offered high caliber individual and group supervision, attend multidisciplinary clinical rounds, and are invited to attend a range of seminars and talks on topics related to the nature and treatment of trauma-related and dissociative disorders. Additionally, students are welcome to attend McLean's weekly Grand Rounds lecture series.
