Study Title:
Perceptions of Health Effects, Belief Formation, and Barriers to Adoption of Natto: An Anonymous Online Survey
What is this study?
This is a research study examining how adults perceive natto (fermented soybeans), including consumption patterns, perceived health effects, barriers to adoption, and the sources of information that shape health beliefs about natto. The study additionally explores how individuals weigh different types of evidence and authority when forming dietary health beliefs.
Why am I being asked to participate?
You are being asked to participate because you are an adult who has tried natto at least once, OR who is aware of natto but has not yet tried it. About 200–500 people are expected to participate.
What will I be asked to do?
Complete an anonymous online survey taking approximately 12–18 minutes. Questions cover:
☐ Your experiences eating natto (if applicable)
☐ How often and how you prepare or consume it
☐ Your reasons for eating or avoiding it
☐ Your perceptions of health effects
☐ Where you learned about natto and how confident you are in health claims
This study involves minimal risk. No names, email addresses, or IP addresses are collected. Your responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to you. Participation is entirely voluntary. Results may be published in academic journals, but no individual responses will be identifiable.
